Mr Tarun Sharma / Consultant Ophthalmologist Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology Specialist Interest in Glaucoma

Mr Sharma is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust since his appointment in 2007. He is Clinical Director for ophthalmic services in all hospitals under Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

His training was predominantly at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. His fellowships were as senior glaucoma fellow at Oxford Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Specialist interest

Mr Sharma specialises in

  1. Routine and complex cataract surgery (in patients with glaucoma & very difficult cataracts);
  2. Comprehensive Glaucoma care including Modern Glaucoma Diagnostic imaging, Glaucoma Lasers
  3. Modern Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C, Modern Glaucoma Tube implant surgery
  4. Super-specialist opinions for glaucoma and cataract problems (As Glaucoma lead for Worcestershire he routinely receives referrals from other Consultants for glaucoma and complex cataract problems).

Mr Tarun Sharma has lectured by invitation extensively in the UK ( Royal College meetings)and abroad (Europe, USA & Asia) on the subject of Glaucoma management & modern glaucoma surgery as well as on cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma.

He has written 4 chapters in renowned ophthalmology textbooks and has authored over 40 research publications. He has launched Worcestershire Glaucoma Support Group which provides education & support to patients with glaucoma enabling them to achieve better outcomes.
